FAQ
Questions from physicians and CME offices
CME Record is a documentation service for self-designated AMA PRA Category 2 Credit™. It is not an accredited CME provider.
Is this Category 1 CME?
No. CME Record documents AMA PRA Category 2 Credit™ only. Category 2 is self-designated and self-claimed by the individual physician for educational activities that are not certified for Category 1.
The AMA is explicit: physicians are not issued Category 2 certificates by accredited providers. Each physician is responsible for claiming and keeping a record. This service formats that record for a CME office.
Are you an ACCME-accredited provider?
No. CME Record is a documentation service. It does not accredit activities, host courses, or award credit. The physician completes the learning, attests to it, and receives a formatted file.
Which physicians can use this?
Any licensed physician (MD, DO, and equivalent) in any specialty. Category 2 is defined by the AMA PRA credit system, not by a single specialty society. The record lists the physician’s specialty so a receiving office can see relevance to practice.
What activities qualify?
The AMA lists examples: unstructured online searching and learning (not Internet point-of-care), reading authoritative medical literature, consultation with peers and experts, self-assessment, medical writing, preceptorship, peer review and quality assurance.
The activity must comply with the AMA definition of CME, comply with relevant AMA ethical opinions, be non-promotional, and be a worthwhile learning experience related to the physician’s practice — as determined by the physician.
How do hours work?
Hours are claimed in 0.25-hour (15-minute) increments. The documentation fee is based on the calendar span of the activity, not on the hours claimed. Hours must be accurate.
Will an employer accept this for reimbursement?
That is the employer’s policy. Many organizations reimburse self-directed CME, literature, documentation, and related travel when the file is complete. Some accept only Category 1. Physicians should confirm local rules before relying on reimbursement.
Each file includes a cover letter, the self-designation record, and an itemized receipt.
Can a hotel be included?
Yes, as an optional line item. The hotel name, nights, and amount print on the cover letter and as a separate lodging line on the receipt, distinct from the documentation fee.
CME Record does not book or pay the hotel. Whether lodging is reimbursable is determined by the employer.
Can this document learning completed while traveling?
Yes, if the physician actually completed a qualifying self-directed activity at that location on those dates. The file records the dates and place of participation supplied by the physician.
Travel, lodging, and meals are between the physician, the employer, and a tax professional. This service does not certify that a destination was a live conference.
Is this tax deductible?
Nothing on this site is tax advice. Whether a documentation fee, travel, or other CME expense is deductible or a nontaxable reimbursement depends on how the employer runs its plan and on current tax rules. Consult a tax professional.
How do I pay?
The documentation fee is paid by card through Stripe. You pay only that fee — $129, $229, or $349 depending on the length of the activity. Hotel and other travel are listed on the file if you enter them; they are not charged here.
After payment the receipt is marked Paid and includes the Stripe payment reference, which is what a CME office usually wants to see.
Why does a preview receipt show a fee if I have not paid?
So the file can be reviewed in the form a CME office would receive after purchase. A preview is not a paid receipt. Published documentation fees are $129, $229, and $349 by duration of the activity.
I’m not a physician. Can I still use this?
AMA PRA Category 2 Credit™ is a physician credit. Other clinicians have their own boards and CE rules. If a board accepts self-documented CE in a similar form, the file may still be useful — but it is written for physicians.
Where are records stored?
In this preview, records are stored in the browser. Print or save a PDF for a durable copy. A signed-in production account would store them with the physician’s login.
